Empirical Probability Reimagined: InteractiveLearning with AI-Generated Simulations

Abstract

This article addresses the pedagogical challenge of teaching empirical probability, where the impracticality of conducting thousands of manual trials forces educators to favour theoretical definitions over experiential learning by doing. To restore this essential discovery aspect, the paper demonstrates how freely available generative-AI chat tools can put a live, browser-based classroom simulation in front of students in a matter of minutes — without programming, paid software, or platform-specific dependencies. Using the familiar experiment of tossing a coin, students observe in real time how the empirical probability of getting heads converges to the theoretical probability as the number of tosses increases. This simple hands-on activity makes the Law of Large Numbers intuitive and engaging. Requiring only a web browser, a plain text editor, and a free AI assistant, the method enables interactive probability learning on virtually any device in any classroom.
