The question running through this issue is which students a course or lesson is really built for. Robert Knurek hands that question to students directly: using the FCC’s broadband map and the GAISE II framework, he has them analyze real data and watch the gaps in internet access show up county by county. Steve Miller and Jennifer Walls take it up at the policy level in the Advocacy Corner, arguing that Ohio’s proposed Modeling and Reasoning course would fit more students’ college and career plans than the calculus track most are pushed toward by default.

The rest of the issue stays close to the classroom. Maria Speakman and Scott Courtney teach matrix multiplication with manipulatives and group work, letting students build the operation by hand before the rule for it ever gets named. And Michael Flick and Debora Kuchey close things out in Contest Corner with the 2021 State Tournament results and a few problems from past years worth trying yourself.
